Privacy Policy

Who we are

CareerVani (“we”, “us”) is an independently operated career-tools service based in India, available on the web and as an Android app. For any privacy question, data request, or complaint, contact us at support.careervani@gmail.com. We aim to respond within 7 working days.

What we collect

• Account data: your Google account email address and display name, received through Firebase Authentication when you sign in.
• Career content you provide: your career profile and goals, the details you enter or upload (work history, projects, education, skills, certifications, awards, job descriptions and instructions), and the AI outputs generated from them, such as resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn posts.
• Interview practice data: practice sessions (including the answers you submit in timed assessments, so they can be scored and reviewed), scores, progress and streaks, your Story Bank, review cards, and interview prep plans (the company, role, date and optional job description you enter, and which steps you have completed).
• Answers sent for “Get AI feedback”: processed to produce your feedback and then discarded. We do not store them or write them to logs.
• Job search data: your job preferences (such as target roles, locations, skills and minimum salary), search schedule, saved jobs, application records and notes.
• Usage data: per-feature usage counts used to enforce limits, and privacy-safe product analytics events. Analytics events never contain resume text or practice answers.
• Device and app data: on Android, a push-notification token so we can send job alerts you have turned on; crash reports (device model, operating system and technical error details) to fix bugs; and app-integrity signals that confirm requests come from the genuine app.
• Payment data: order, subscription and payment identifiers plus payment status received from Razorpay. We never receive or store your card number, CVV, or UPI credentials.
• Referral and sign-up data: your referral code and which account redeemed it, so bonus credits can be granted correctly, and, if you arrived through a campaign link, its source and campaign labels.

How we use it

• To generate the content you request. Your inputs and the relevant parts of your career profile are sent from our servers to our AI routing provider, OpenRouter, which forwards them to the model that serves your request, solely to produce your output.
• To run job searches. Your search terms (role, skills, location and salary filters) are sent to our job-listing provider, Adzuna. We do not send your name, email address or resume to Adzuna. Ranking and AI shortlists are computed by us and our AI provider from your saved profile.
• To send notifications you have turned on (see below).
• To enforce free-tier limits, fair-use caps and credit balances.
• To create, verify and manage subscriptions and free trials.
• To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and automated scraping of our APIs.
• To fix crashes and improve the product using aggregate, non-identifying metrics.

Our legal basis for processing is the performance of our contract with you (delivering the service you asked for), your consent where we ask for it (such as notifications, microphone access and personalised ads), and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and financially sustainable.

Voice typing and microphone

When you tap a microphone button, CareerVani asks for microphone permission and listens only while the listening panel is shown. Speech is converted to text by your device's speech recognition service (on most Android phones this is provided by Google) or, on the web, by your browser. CareerVani receives only the resulting text, which goes into the field you were typing in. We do not record or store your audio.

Notifications

• Job alerts (Android, Premium): when your scheduled search runs, our server sends a push notification through Firebase Cloud Messaging with the number of new matches.
• Reminders (Android): daily practice, daily challenge, interview prep and weekly recap reminders are optional and scheduled on your device. Their content is created on your phone.
• You can turn notifications off in the app or in your device settings at any time.

Advertising

The free plan of the Android app may show ads through Google AdMob, including optional rewarded ads that grant credits. Where required, we ask for your consent through Google's consent tool before ads are requested, and you can change your choice from the ad privacy options in your Profile. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier under Google's policies. Premium accounts do not see ads. We never use your resume or career content to target ads, and this website does not show ads.

What we never do

• We never sell your personal data or your resume content.
• We never use your resume or career content to target advertising.
• We never use your content to train AI models.
• We never write your resume text, practice answers, authentication tokens, or payment signatures into our application logs. Our logger redacts these patterns automatically.

Storage, retention & security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore). Database security rules deny access by default and restrict every document to the account that owns it; entitlement fields such as your plan and credit balance, and sensitive records such as your Story Bank, interview plans and push tokens, can only be written by our server. All traffic uses HTTPS. API keys and payment secrets are held in Google Secret Manager and are never included in the app you install or the website you visit.

We keep your content until you delete it or delete your account. Payment and subscription records are retained for as long as required for tax, accounting and dispute-resolution purposes. Some progress, such as earned badges, is stored only on your device.

Your rights

• Access your data: your generated content is in the History screen, and your profile, practice, plans and job records are visible in the app.
• Delete a generation: History → open the item → Delete. Saved jobs can also be removed in the app.
• Delete your account: Profile → Delete account. This removes your generations, Story Bank, interview prep plans, push-notification tokens and usage counters, anonymises your account, revokes your sessions and disables sign-in.
• Erase remaining records: some records, such as your career profile and goals, interview practice history and job search records, are not yet removed automatically by account deletion. Email support.careervani@gmail.com from your account email and we will erase them.
• Correction, export, withdrawal of consent, or objection: email us and we will action verified requests. You can also turn off notifications and microphone access in your device settings.

Sub-processors and third parties

• Google Firebase — authentication, database, hosting, Cloud Messaging push notifications, Crashlytics crash reporting, Analytics for the app, and App Check (Google Play Integrity on Android, reCAPTCHA on the web) — privacy

These providers may process data outside India, including in the United States and the European Union, under their own contractual and security commitments.

Cookies and similar technologies

Firebase Authentication stores a session token in your browser so that you stay signed in; this is strictly necessary for the service to work. This website stores campaign labels (such as utm_source) in session storage so they can be passed to the app at sign-up, and remembers in local storage if you dismissed the “Get the Android app” banner. If website analytics is enabled, Google Analytics may set measurement cookies. We do not use advertising cookies on this website.

Children

CareerVani is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page and revise the date above whenever this policy changes. Material changes will also be announced in the app.
