How to write a fresher resume when you have no work experience
Recruiters hiring freshers are not looking for a long work history. They want evidence that you can learn, finish things and communicate. Your resume should make that evidence easy to find.
A fresher resume should be one page with: a two-line career objective tied to the role, education (degree, college, year, CGPA or percentage), two to four projects with tools and outcomes, internships or part-time work, grouped skills, certifications, and achievements such as hackathons, college roles or competitions. Lead with education and projects, not a long objective.
- Projects are your experience. Describe them like jobs: what you built, with what, and the result.
- Write a specific two-line objective for the role, not a generic paragraph.
- Include internships, freelancing, college clubs and competitions; they all count.
- Keep it to one page and tailor the top third for each application.
The one-page fresher structure
- Header: name, phone, email, city, LinkedIn, GitHub or portfolio.
- Career objective: two lines.
- Education: degree and specialisation, college, graduation year, CGPA or percentage. Add Class 12 and 10 only if asked or strong.
- Projects: two to four.
- Internships and experience.
- Skills: grouped.
- Certifications.
- Achievements and activities.
Writing a career objective that is not generic
Weak: “Seeking a challenging position in a reputed organisation where I can utilise my skills.”
Better: “Computer Science graduate (2026) with projects in Java and Spring Boot, looking to start as a backend developer and build reliable APIs.”
Name the role, your strongest relevant skill and what you want to do. Two lines is enough.
Turning projects into evidence
For each project, write a title, the tools used and two or three bullets:
- What problem it solved or what it does.
- Your specific contribution if it was a team project.
- A result: users, accuracy, speed, a grade, a demo, a deployment.
Example: “Built a college event registration app in Flutter and Firebase used by 400+ students during the annual fest; handled sign-in and payments screens.” Use numbers only if they are true.
Internships, part-time work and activities
A two-month internship, tutoring, a freelance website, running a college club or organising a fest all show responsibility. Describe them with the same achievement format. Non-technical work still demonstrates communication, reliability and teamwork.
Skills and certifications
Group skills (Programming, Tools, Data, Soft skills) and list only what you can discuss in an interview. Certifications from NPTEL, Coursera, AWS, Google, Microsoft or industry bodies help when they match the role. Put the most relevant first.
Fresher resume mistakes to avoid
- Two or three pages of school details and hobbies.
- A skills list of twenty tools you used once.
- Photos, signatures, a full personal-details block and a declaration.
- The same resume for a developer role and a business analyst role.
- Spelling mistakes in your own name, email or college.

Frequently asked questions
Should a fresher resume be one page?
Yes. One page is enough for almost every fresher and is what campus recruiters expect.
Is CGPA required on a fresher resume?
Include it if it meets the employer’s cut-off or is above about 7.0. Many mass recruiters in India set minimum percentage criteria, so leaving it out can raise questions.
What if I have no projects?
Build one small project in the weeks before you apply, or describe significant assignments, a final-year project or open-source contributions.
